  Course Overview:  
    Fifth grade chorus an elective course offered to all fifth grade students. This is a beginning level chorus and stresses ensemble singing. The chorus performs at two major concerts, the Christmas concert and the spring concert, to demonstrate what has been learned in class.  
  Objectives:  
   
  1. To develop each student's ability to express emotional and meaningful response through singing. (A1,2,6,7,8,9)(B2,3,4,6)(C1,3,6)
  2. To develop basic music skills necessary to understand, appreciate, enjoy, and participate in a variety of lifelong musical activities. (A1,3,4,5,6,7,8,9) (B1,2,3,4,5,6) (C1,2,3,4,5,6)
  3. To develop a sense of self-worth through successful participation. (A2,4,6,7,8,9) (B6) (C1,4,6)

  5. To give each student the opportunity to perform and enjoy music from diverse cultures and historical periods.
 
  Course Content:  
   
  1. Instructional rehearsals are held twice a week for approximately forty minutes. Students are expected to practice their parts at home. (A6,8,9) (B6) (C6)
  2. Music is rehearsed in two separate parts. (A4,6,8,9) (B6)
  3. Concerts are designed to demonstrate what learning has been accomplished in class. (A2,6,7,8,9) (B2,6)

Music Level 1 for All Voices:

 
    Using a balanced variety of age-level appropriate music and choral literature, the vocal music program will plan it's curriculum to train each student in the following skills.  
  Tone Production:  
   
  1. Demonstrate the basic characteristic singing voice. (A1,4,8,9)
  2. Demonstrate proper styles of articulation for attacks and releases of tone. (A2,4,7,8,9) (B2)
  3. Demonstrate the basic dynamic levels. (A2,4,7,8,9) (B2)
 
  Technique:  
   
  1. Demonstrate correct posture and breath support. (A1,4,7,9)
  2. Demonstrate correct breathing techniques. (A1,4,7,9)
  3. Demonstrate ability to sing in tune (A2,4,7,9)
  4. Demonstrate the ability to sing in two parts, in rounds, and perform partner songs. (A2,4,7,8,9) (B1)
 
  Reading:  
   
  1. Understand the line/space relationship of the appropriate clefs. (A2,4,7,9)
  2. Identify the notes on the staff in the music being performed. (A2,4,7,8,9)

  4. Demonstrate a steady beat while reading music. (A2,4,7,9)
