Audio Tape Performance Tests

Task-

Students audiotape a brief playing assignment during rehearsal.

Requirements:

  1. Students will be assigned a short excerpt from the literature we are rehearsing in class to prepare for the audio test. This excerpt should be a phrase or a difficult passage in the literature prepare for the next performance.
  2. On test days students leave rehearsal one at a time, go to the practice room to tape the assignment. Student procedure:
  3. After students complete the assignment, the instructor listens to each students tape, grades it on the rubric, and posts the grades in the grade book.
  4. The grading rubric sheets are filed in each student's portfolio folder.

 

 

This Task assesses the students to see if they meet or exceed the standards in the following performance indicators for the Visual and Performing Arts of Maine's Learning Results.

A.  Creative Expression.   Students will create and or perform to express ideas and feelings.

     5.  Create a portfolio of work that communicates new ideas, feelings, and moods using different media, techniques, and processes.

B. Cultural Heritage.    Students will understand the cultural contributions of the arts, how the arts are shaped by prevailing cultural and social beliefs and values, and recognize exemplary works from a variety of cultures and historical periods.

     5.  Develop performing art work (learning, rehearsing, and preparing band and choral literature) in response to a historical, social, or cultural condition using a variety of forms.

 

 

This Task assesses the students to see if they meet or exceed the standards in the following performance indicators for the National Standards for Arts Education.

1.  Content Standard:Singing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

  1. Sing with expression and technical accuracy a large and varied repertoire of vocal literature with a difficulty level of 4 on a scale of 1 - 6, including some songs performed from memory.
  2. Sing music written in four parts, with or without accompaniment.
  3. Sing with expression and technical accuracy a large and varied repertoire of vocal literature with a difficulty of 5 on a scale of 1 - 6.

2.  Content Standard:Performing, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music.

  1. Perform with expression and technical accuracy a large and varied repertoire of instrumental literature with a difficulty level of 4 on a scale of 1 - 6.
  2. Perform an appropriate part in an ensemble, demonstrating well-developed ensemble skills.
  3. Perform with expression and technical accuracy a large and varied repertoire of instrumental literature with a difficulty level of 5 on a scale of 1 - 6.

2.  Content Standard:Reading and notating music.

  1. Sight read, accurately and expressively, music with a difficulty level 3, on a scale of 1 - 6.
  2. Interpret nonstandard notation symbols used by some 20th Century composers.
